Hmm. This isn't quite as cool as I had hoped. I mean a few of the artists re-tool the characters as robots or lizards or whatever... but most just draw them in their own style.
It's like when we used to sit around the lunch table in 7th grade and all draw Wolverine.
In fact it's EXACTLY like that.
Still, nice images!
I disagree. I think that the awesomeness level is high, although there does seem to be a bit more variety of imagination when the theme isn't a superhero. Even so, there's still good stuff within the superhero sections: Sarah Mensinga's supergirl and the Cyclops section—where half the artists used the X-man and half the artists used the mythological figure, with some lucha thrown in for good measure—were standouts for me.
Actually, you're right -- Sarah Mensinga's stuff in particular is really fun & inventive.
