The Global Economy

It’s not just the U.S. markets; now the Nikkei-225 is down 5%, the Hang Seng is down 5.5%, Brazil’s index is down 10%, etc., etc. For some reason, this creeps me out in a way the Dow, etc., did not.

What’s the best source for smart reporting on this crisis — from a global perspective? The Economist seems to be posting at magazine-pace… FT seems okay. What else is out there?

I've been following the BBC World Service. For example, from their web page right now: "European financial giant Fortis and Britain's Bradford and Bingley bank are both partially nationalised as ongoing financial turmoil batters the continent."

My post on how the coverage is woefully inadequate. I'm stuffed to the gills with smart reporting now. I want smart analysis. Even better, I want someone to make a Web site where someone's synthesized the points of consensus and divergence among all the world's most prescient economists, and invited them to have a debate.

Physician, heal thyself!

(Actually, I mean, that's a great idea, Matt, and you should totally do it! but I don't have an aphorism for that.)

The Christian Sci Monitor is another pretty good independent source. http://csmonitor.com But they don't keep the 24 news flow we'd all prefer right now.
