You’re the best, Tim Carmody.
Thank you. What a wonderful comedienne — I love what she says in the interview, that comedy is being absolutely serious.
You especially see that in the History of the World, Pt. 1 clip.
Billy West says in one of the Futurama commentaries that Bea Arthur’s vocal performance as the Femputer/Fembot is absolutely perfect. She came in with a minimum of direction, understood it perfectly, and absolutely nailed it.
In particular, the way she says (and repeats) “Why?” in her monologue gives him the chills.
I’m thinking about starting a Straight Guys For Bea Arthur fan club — we don’t have the same support networks that girls and gay men have. If it weren’t for blogs, we’d have to grieve in silence.
She was my favorite golden girl. Was she everyone’s favorite?
