The Word 'Aubade' Is Way, Way Underutilized

A lovely poem in the New Yorker.

Well, I dont know, claiming that it is "underutilized" sort of assumes that there are more occasions for it to be utilized than there are occasions when it actually is utilized. I bet the frequency of both approaches zero. ;)

Also, I actually thought I overheard it at a bar the other night, but it turned out it was just two dudes arguing over whether a girl was cute or not, and one of them had said, "Oh, bod is ok, but face is busted!"

I am a huge nerd.

Isn't the word pronounced "ah-BODE" anyway?

There was a pretty crummy undergraduate lit-mag at the University of Chicago called "Aubade." The other student mag on campus was called "Euphony."

Now that's nerdy. Nothing Offbeat or Oatsy in there at all.

And the word "utilized" is way way overused. Ohhhhh, SNARK!

In your honor I sing at dawn on Sunday, Oct 14. Any requests?

Something simple -- a kids' song (Raffi?) or a lullaby.

Gavin: Nope. According to Merriam-Webster, it's \___SIMPLE_HTML_DOM__VOKU__AMP____#141;-ˈbäd\ (in their useless pseudo-IPA); "uh-BODE" is where you live; "oh-BOD" is the poem greeting the dawn.
