Finally, GMail for Everything!

I’ve been waiting for this for months, ever since I first heard Google was testing out the ability for users to manage external email accounts through Gmail. Every few weeks, I’d peek back into my settings and see if I’d been added to the group of users this feature had been rolled out to. And at last, the moment is here.

I love Google the way Winston loves Big Brother.

The bummer is that Yahoo! charges its users for POP access and forwarding. You can use Yahoo to read Gmail, but you still can't do it the other way around.

Maybe I need a new garbage email account.

I got into the beta program a while ago, and it's awwwww-some. The only missing pieces are:

- no integration with the task bar notifier
- no integration for my personal email account with my Google account (i.e. homepage)

Although they recently added a slew of mailserver features (CNAME mapping for DNS customization, etc.) so maybe this is on the way or added since the last time I checked.

One big thing I think Google is missing out on all together though is the ability to tie accounts together. Yahoo lets me participate in Yahoo Groups under several different email addresses with one account. I would love to start using Google Docs and Spreadsheets for corporate needs, but they arent able to send email notifications to a work email but let people who are logged into Google as a personal email access the data without logging out and logging back in under the other username. Weak. And totally holding back adoption of Google apps IMHO.

Ooh ooh ooh... one more thing I want!

I'd like to be able to import my old emails from Outlook and Outlook Exchange from the past 10 years into my personal GMail so they are all searchable and usable. Yeah, that's right, I want to give Google more personal information that they can use to market to me, in exchange for them making my data useful again.

i really want in on the external mail for gmail beta, but i have a link to this in my gmail account settings:
http://www.google.com/a/?utm_medium=et&utm_source=GmailUI&utm_campaign=gafyd

seems interesting, but I'm not sure how it works with an existing page, and i haven't heard anything about it.
