You’re Not As Ugly As You Think
Wow! Quiet holiday here at Snarkmarket. I don’t know about Matt, but I made turkey burgers, played Wii (if you have Current, you can see me waiting in line for mine), and saw The Fountain.
So, on to business… This Economist article doesn’t entirely make sense, but I think I get the central premise: Both men and women tend to think their peers (rivals!) are hotter than they actually are.
I experience a variation of this on the train every day, whereby I tend to think everyone else’s shoes are way cooler than mine.

Robin,
Is Wii everything you hoped it would be?
(Eek -- haven't bought a new game platform since Sega Genesis. Sad.)
Oh yes. I suppose I should write an entire Wii post... there is certainly plenty to talk about.
I'm surprised that The Economist would make such an odd logical leap. The hed/tag/kicker only makes sense if the story is--people rank themselves in a crowd of the same sex and then the opposite sex usually ranks them higher.
You should write an entire Wii post. Say something revelatory about it. I made a token effort to get the Wii on the 19th, but failed. I half-consoled myself by purchasing Final Fantasy XII instead.
Can't see the pod, but speaking of waiting in line to buy things ... Huma and I encountered people camping out in front of Best Buy at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening. We drove by and shouted out the window to ascertain that yes, they were preparing for the store's Black Friday sales. Actual tents and everything. On Thanksgiving night!
