The Lamest Duck
Another TIME.com slideshow: This time it’s President Bush’s recent trip to Europe. Most of the images aren’t of Bush at all, though; they’re of the weird moments and empty spaces that surround any State Visit.
No idea if this is intended, but it feels a lot like a photo op-ed. The pictures definitely seem to make an argument: about the hollowness of pomp, about the scene behind the TV cameras, about being alone in the world.
Comments
Time calls these slideshows "photo essays," so it definitely seems justified to read the series as expressing a viewpoint or argument. And I really like your reading of the series.
I have to say, I hate the way these photo essays load on time.com. It makes the entire page refresh each time I view a new pic - good content, but I prefer crappy kodak easy share galleries to this interface.
I am with you on the interface. It's slow & clunky & totally just a play for more pageviews. Lame!
