Ezra Klein points to video of Stephen Lewis’s speech at the close of the big AIDS conference in Toronto. He’s right, it’s great (control-F for ‘lewis’ on the page). Lewis is a Canadian diplomat and, it turns out, a bracing speaker.

I happened to be in Canada during the AIDS conference (in Ottawa, though, not Ontario). It was definitely the major news story while we were there, after (maybe) the fighting/ceasefire in Lebanon.
Before we get all rosy thinking about Canadians as our shining moral beacons to the north, it's worth noting that Canadian PM Stephen Harper declined to attend the conference -- a move most attributed as an attempt to avoid speaking on the subject, which might upset his conservative base. That was the other big story in Canada.
Oh, and bike theft is up in Ottawa. Which, given the murder rate in Philadelphia this year, is the sort of crime story I like to see.
Yeah, I've given up on thinking of Canada as the great northern enlightenment. They got crazies there too.
