Your Morning Freak-Out

Sooo it turns out that what you hear is determined in part by what you see. Case in point: the McGurk effect. Languagehat explains it like this:

If your ears register /ba/ and your eyes [register] a mouth saying /ga/, you’ll “hear” /da/.

Which doesn’t sound that impressive… until you actually try it.

I love brains.

wow that's cool.
try closing your eyes in between when he says half of them. The sound changes (or seems to).
Is this something that only happens for speakers of certain languages? would it afect a speaker of japanese? that's really neat.
