This works so well because 1) Sarah Palin is a funny punchline to many jokes; but more importantly 2) the archetypes of the candidates are just so clear -- almost to the point of exaggeration.

I mean, in retrospect it's easier, but how would you have done this for Gore/Lieberman/Bush/Cheney in 2000? I'm not sure you could have.
