Gabe Askew’s fan-video for “Two Weeks” by Grizzly Bear can conjure only one appropriate adjective: Sublime.
Here’s an interview about it, and here’s the thing itself:
An extra bonus for those of you who make it to the comment page:
This is “Bang” by Rye Rye, the first artist on MIA’s new record label. I’m in love with this track. Just listen: it’s propelled entirely by the creative layering of voices, and a musicality so finely calibrated it feels elemental.

Not a big fan of the second song, but I really, really enjoyed the first, especially with the video to go along with it. Thanks for sharing.
Whoah! Smooth move. I’m gonna click over to the comments page on EVERY Carmody post from now on. Lookin’ for Easter eggs.
(I am the inverse-Jebadiah — I appreciated the artistry of the G.B. video but am unmoved by the song. Totally enjoyed Rye Rye, though.)
‘Tis the beauty of humanity that with such similar input we have such different experiences.
I actually grew up with the guitar player in Grizzly Bear. A very cool guy who always wanted to go into music – I’m very happy for him.
I’m in favor of easter eggs in general. But isn’t this a Thompson post? You’re shaking my faith in the signature branding, Sloan!
The song grew on me with repeated viewing. I really love the video. It brought back visceral memories of going to weird museums and other weird exhibitions as a child, these delicate intricate animated dioramas moving in a glass box in the wall of a darkened hallway.
I love how casually the interview exemplifies the fact that plenty of straight marriages and relationships are in fact strengthened and enriched because of free association with freely expressed gay relationships.
Ha hahaha. It totally is. It’s the Grizzly Bear that threw me! Tim’s the one who posts Grizzly Bear!
When have I ever posted about Grizzly Bear? Okay, Department of Eagles that one time. And I post a lot about music. Especially lately. And I do like to put easter eggs below the comment fold.
In short, Matt has pulled off a perfect Carmody here. Except the text. The text is echt Thompson.
We should do pastiches of each other more often.
The via link — both source and style — should have been my giveaway.
Well, I mean. Technically the signature should have been my giveaway.
But besides that.
