Zaha Hadid’s design for a performing arts center in Abu Dhabi looks like it could transform into a Neon Genesis Evangelion-style giant robot. Or travel in outer space.
Either one is fine by me.
A beautiful space, in concept. It looks plucked from science fiction. Still, I’m with the naysayers on this one: it looks like it would pretty much suck as a multipurpose performing arts center.
If the acoustic issues of all that glass could be solved, it could play host to some fascinating original art pieces, but from the renderings shown, there’s no way that something like a touring show could perform there.
Each performance piece would have to be custom crafted to the building, and it would be tough for any of it to match the architecture itself in scope.
Ha ha — yes, of course, I never actually paused to consider its utility as an actual, you know, performing arts center. Brilliant comment.
