Check out this gallery of incredible sculptures by Ron Mueck — uncannily lifelike depictions of people at their most vulnerable, all scaled to smaller- or grossly larger-than-life dimensions. His work’s currently on exhibit at the Fondation Cartier in Paris. More Mueck. Google image search.

Those sculptures are AMAZING. I would love to see one in real life.
Adrian, U R weird.
The Hirshorn Museum had Mueck’s “Untitled (Big Man)” (photo 11 on the WaPo slideshow) on display this summer. I was at the gallery by myself and literally giggled out loud when I first saw the sculpture. It was so suprising and so different from anything I’ve ever seen in a gallery. What’s brilliant about the big man is not just that it’s lifelike, but that its size is completely un-lifelike. Seeing it in person, I realized how vulnerable, sad and wise a naked, hairless giant person would be. And I really wished that I could just hang out and have a conversation with him. As far as I can remember, it’s the only time I’ve ever wanted to hang out with a sculpture.
