Out, Out, Damn Spot

Matt linked to a gallery of retouched photos a few days ago. Well, just in case you have some fugly snaps of Beyonce lying around and you’re wondering, “How can I clean these things up??” — here you go! Click for an insanely detailed Photoshop tutorial.

okay, i took this insanely detailed photoshop tutorial and it ended up not being detailed enough. i encourage you to view and see my after/before pics. notice the eyes (i made opened them up and colored them closer to his real eye color and i adjusted his ears, lips, hairline… etc. i’m totally out of control. i was trying to work on this guy’s face last week and, robin, your posting was very timely. dammit, i think i’m going to have to take a photoshop class or buy a bloody book.

Yeah man! It’s really interesting to see the before/after like this — b/c really the changes are NOT very extreme, but they make a subtle and important distance.

Interesting that you colored the eyes to more closely match their real color — looking at the picture I assumed they had been ‘amped up,’ maybe even a little too much. But I guess it just goes to show you — photographs are by no means a reliable record, and sometimes some correction is required not to prettify them but simply to make them more closely resemble reality. A-ha!
